Be more than your degree: How we're re-shaping education at Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, in just three weeks.

Common Mission Project UK (CMP) and Royal Military College Sandhurst (RMAS) have partnered to launch a 3-week pilot programme of the renowned Hacking for Ministry of Defence (H4MoD) course.

H4MoD is typically an accredited university module that enables a generation of students to learn and apply lean start-up methodology to build solutions to real-world, government-sourced problems in small teams, in 10-week sprints, supported by some of the best entrepreneurs and innovators in business. For RMAS, we have designed a condensed programme that will provide OTC cadets with an intensive introduction to the H4MoD methodology, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to tackle real-world challenges.

This programme is fully aligned for both CMP and RMAS’s propositions. At CMP our mission is to "equip and inspire the next generation of mission-driven leaders." and for RMAS they encourage students to “be more than your degree”. By partnering together for this unique university module, we’re able to provide UOTC cadets with an opportunity to learn about and apply the H4MoD lean start-up methodology to real-world military problems, preparing them to become the next generation of mission-driven leaders in the field of Defence.

H4MoD is designed to be highly interactive, with students working closely with experienced entrepreneurs and innovators in and outside of the MoD. For example, in their first week of H4MoD RMAS welcomed Dr. Jim Santa, Director of Curriculum at CMP in the US. Jim has kick-started what will be a series of guided sessions, hands-on exercises and simulations over the three-week course. Students will learn about the various aspects of lean start-up methodology, including customer discovery, minimum viable product development and commercialisation.

In addition to technical skills, students will also develop their leadership skills through team-based exercises centred around the problem. Because if the problem is wrong, the solution is never right. This thinking is a crucial aspect of H4MoD, as it is essential for leaders to understand the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship in achieving their organisation's overall mission.

We’re proud of this partnership as it’s a forward-looking opportunity for UOTC cadets to gain valuable experience in innovation and entrepreneurship that will be crucial for their future careers in Defence.
